Fast, expert emergency services

We are proud to offer two convenient locations for emergency care: Memorial Hospital of Tampa ER and Tampa Community ER. Both of our ERs are known for short average ER wait times, meaning you receive care faster. Our goal is for your time spent in the waiting room to be as brief and pleasant as possible.

Memorial Hospital of Tampa ER

The ER at our main hospital offers 18 patient beds. It allows emergency physicians to refer patients to all medical specialties our hospital offers, even in an emergency situation. If you require a higher level of care, you will be admitted to our hospital. Here, you will have access to all kinds of advanced care, including an intensive care unit (ICU).

Advanced Primary Stroke Center

Our hospital is recognized by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. This means we have received national accreditation for the stroke services we provide. Our emergency physicians and neurologists work together to provide a swift diagnosis and expedited treatment for patients coming to our ER with stroke symptoms.

Emergency care for heart attacks

The physicians and support staff in our ER are trained in providing a fast response to chest pain patients. Patients coming to our ER with potential heart attack symptoms receive prompt, expert heart care that includes cardiac imaging and lifesaving treatment.

What to expect when you come to the ER

When you arrive at the ER, a triage nurse will ask about your symptoms and take your vital signs. Once you have been seen by a healthcare professional, you will be visited by a registration clerk who will gather your information for your medical record and insurance.

Whether or not you have insurance or are able to pay, you will be medically screened, evaluated and stabilized.

What to bring to the ER

When coming to the ER, try to bring the following items and information with you:

  • A list of all medications your are currently taking
  • List of all known medical allergies
  • A copy of results you have received from any recent medical tests
  • List of any recent medical procedures
  • Any specialized care preferences or restrictions
  • A responsible adult or phone number of someone for us to contact

ER discharge process

Before you are sent home, be sure to ask any questions you have about your care. Make sure you keep all of the paperwork, discharge instructions and medicine, if you received any, given to you by the ER staff.

If you have a primary care provider listed in your medical record, we will provide them a copy of your visit summary. We encourage you to contact your primary care provider (or find a primary care doctor with us) following a visit to the ER.
